Political Power Committee

The Political Power Committee (PPC) serves as the Davis MSA’s student activism wing that aims to establish a core group of activists that have a consistent set of beliefs in vibrant prophetic activism. The committee fosters a beautiful team of Muslim student activists that passionately uphold their faith in service to God and the community in their pursuit for establishing justice and raising awareness. The Davis Muslim community is powerful in and of itself, yet lacks some passion for embodying justice. The PPC aims to change this and is open to any Muslim activist that is sincere about achieving change through action, allyship, and advocacy whilst embodying the principles and adab of the Prophet (PBUH).

Some objectives/goals of the PPC are:

Anti-Zionist Week: A week-long event that aims to stand in solidarity with those that have experienced or are experiencing the effects of apartheid, Zionism, occupation, and oppression. This event is one of the most large–scale events that the MSA will take part in on campus and needs a hefty amount of funds and support for our vision of this project to succeed. This event will be aggressive, confrontational, and aims to put the Zionist issue front and center on our campus. The week will include public demonstrations, speaker events, art exhibits, and much more.

Skilled Activism:

In the Muslim community, topics such as secularism, democracy, and the proper adab in interacting with groups with different agendas are rarely discussed. The PPC envisions hosting workshops and classes that focus on activism and would love to invite speakers such as Omar Suleiman or Yasir Qadhi, as they are experts in this field and would understand the niche of the Davis community quite well. We can only invite these scholars if we can afford their honorariums –– please consider supporting us!

Community Actions:

One of the main forms of external events PPC will have is community actions or demonstrations, such as rallies, protests, and public displays. Along with releasing statements on injustices that the MSA cannot stand silent on, the PPC will additionally take direct physical action through showing strength, solidarity, and a powerful presence by engaging in prophetic activism on campus.
